Workspace templates
A workspace template is a reusable starting point for a new workspace. It holds a workspace's set-up, not its people or content.
What a template holds
A template is captured from an existing workspace. It keeps the configuration and leaves out:
- people: members, role assignments, invites and consents (a new workspace gets its creator as owner);
- per-person state: read state and notifications;
- content: docs, files, reactions, resolutions, findings, Brain records, interviews, version history and anything in the Trash.
Who can capture a template
Capturing needs the manage templates permission. The Admin and Curator roles have it. See Groups & roles.
- You can capture only the workspace you are working in. A request for any other workspace is refused, even if you are an Admin there too.
- A support access session or an API key can capture only the workspace it is scoped to.
- Each template has a name (up to 200 characters) and an optional description. A second template with the same name in the same workspace is refused.
- A template you capture belongs to your workspace.
Starting a workspace from a template
When someone creates a workspace, the form shows Start from a template (optional) whenever published platform templates exist. Blank workspace (default) is the first choice.
Only published platform-wide templates appear there. Workspace templates do not.
Platform templates
Your platform operator captures, publishes and deletes platform-wide templates from the SuperAdmin console.
