Quizzes

A quiz is a scored set of questions that renders inline in a chat or a course lesson. Each learner takes it on their own and sees only their own results.

Type /quiz in the composer to create one, or ask an agent to create it for you. (If your admin has turned quizzes off, they aren't offered.)

Questions

A quiz holds an ordered list of questions (up to 100). Each one is:

  • Single choice: pick one option.
  • Multiple choice: pick every option that applies.
  • True / false.

Each question is worth some points and can carry an explanation shown with the answer.

Scoring

Scoring happens on the server, never in your browser.

  • A question scores its points only when your selection matches the correct answer exactly. There is no partial credit on multiple choice.
  • An unanswered question scores 0.
  • The quiz can have a pass mark (a percentage). With no pass mark, any submission counts as done.

Settings

  • Attempts allowed: how many times a learner may submit. Leave it empty for unlimited.
  • Show answers: when learners see the correct answers: after submit, after pass, or never.
  • Shuffle: each learner gets their own order of questions and options.

Submissions are throttled to one every few seconds, so a double-click never uses up two attempts.

Who sees what

The correct answers are never sent to learners until their show-answers setting allows it. Per-question and per-learner results are visible to the quiz's creator, people who can manage widgets, Facilitators and course authors.

In courses

A quiz can be a lesson activity. It counts as complete when the learner passes, or on any submission if the quiz has no pass mark.

In a quiz lesson with a pass mark, Complete lesson stays disabled until you pass, with a note saying what is needed (for example Pass the quiz (60% or more)). A failed attempt shows Not passed yet. The server enforces this too: a lesson cannot be marked complete another way without a pass.

Agents

An agent can create a quiz for you, but it cannot take one, and it never gets the answer key back.
