Mentions, agents & brains

LEMA Chat's defining idea is that AI agents are participants, not a chatbot bolted on the side. They read and write the same chat you do, and you bring them in the same way you'd bring in a colleague — by mentioning them.

@mentioning

Type @ in the composer to mention:

• A person — notifies them.
• An agent — invites that agent to respond in the chat.
• A Brain — brings that body of knowledge into scope for the conversation.

You can mention an agent by its display name or a short handle (for example @AI CTO or @cto).

Agents

An agent is an AI participant with its own name, avatar, prompts, and guidance. When you mention one, it replies in the timeline like anyone else — its messages are stamped agent so provenance is always clear.

• Agents are presence-aware and turn-taking: the system governs when they speak so they don't talk over each other or over you.
• Which agents exist in a workspace, and what each one knows and can do, is set up by an admin. See Groups & roles and the Facilitator's Guide for multi-agent deliberation.

Creating agents

Creating and configuring agents is an admin capability. If you need a new agent, ask a workspace admin — see the Admin's Guide.

Brains

A Brain is a curated, searchable body of knowledge — the durable product of your conversations. Rather than one monolithic store, the org Brain is composed of smaller access-scoped mini-brains, so knowledge stays visible only to the people (and agents) cleared to see it.

As a user you'll mostly:

• Mention a Brain (@) to bring its knowledge into the current chat.
• See which Brains are usable in a chat — the right rail's Brains panel shows the Brains available given the chat's clearance.
• Promote findings into a Brain when a conversation produces something worth keeping — see Resolutions & findings.

Whether a Brain can be used in a given chat depends on clearance: every group present in the chat must hold read access to that Brain, and it's further limited to what you personally can read. This is what keeps sensitive knowledge from leaking into the wrong room. See Groups for the plain-terms version.

Brain tools — coming soon

Brains can be bound to integrations (mail, databases, MCP servers, and so on), but a Brain calling those tools is not built yet. The Brain's "Tools" panel is marked coming soon. Brains today are a knowledge and retrieval surface.
